RockSchool

Students work on developing musical repertoire in a band environment, giving them a practical insight into being a performing musician.

Contemporary instrumental lessons enable students to hone their skills on guitar, drums, bass, vocals and keys.

Throughout the year, a number of gigs are scheduled at Strings Bar and Venue, where students can perform their sets to real audiences. These events are always hugely popular and offer a supportive atmosphere to develop confidence and technical ability.

Our Saturday RockSchool programme gives young musicians aged 12-16 the opportunity to develop contemporary music skills.

The Saturday RockSchool sessions run during term-time and give beginner and intermediate musicians access to Platform One’s rehearsal studio facilities and instruction from experienced tutors.

What people say about RockSchool

  • "Rock school has been so beneficial for my son to attend; he has progressed in so many areas from singing and drumming to even dancing on the stage! Dave and the Platform One students have allowed him to grow and develop in a musical environment that meets his personality. It has given him the opportunity to believe in himself, and realise that he can accomplish anything no matter how hard it may seem."

  • "It's been transformative. He is more confident, happier and has developed so much as a guitarist, both in terms of performance and technical skill, that has genuinely matured through his experiences with P1"

  • "Saturday Rock school has visibly increased confidence in both my sons in their performance, on stage presence and overall self confidence. It was so good for them and for us to see them performing, improving, and being self motivated to improve and work in a team of like-minded people. Their smiles and enthusiasm said it all!"

  • "My daughter joined Saturday RockSchool for the first time this year. At that point, she had recently been diagnosed with autism and was very shy and reluctant to put herself out there, but her love of singing and the support she received from Beth meant that she has since been able to perform in front of hundreds of people. Her music grades have skyrocketed this year, and the increased confidence has had a profound difference on her, far beyond any other interventions. Working with the band has also helped greatly, their support and acceptance really showcases the culture and ethos of Saturday RockSchool and everyone involved."
